| Donald Yatomi was born in Okinawa, Japan. After graduating from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting, in1992, he then attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration. In his work, Donald explores the realms of the industrial and the urban; in particular, the urbanization of the desert and the solitude of the Western American metropolis. In his words, “It is very interesting, to me, to witness the ironies of serenity and loneliness interlaced within the highly developed and overcrowded cities. My ideas are just implications and hints of alienation versus congregation that takes place at a particular point in time, in very specific locations. It is not urban development itself that I am inevitably drawn to, but rather the paradoxes of each meeting and isolation in the midst of urban development. |
