Since early childhood, Amy Adams has been deeply intrigued with how inanimate objects function and fit together.  As she puts it, “born and raised in the rural Deep South … for me, assemblage implies conjuring and ritual.”  Thus, influenced by the ritualistic voodoo tradition of “helper dolls,” Amy creates powerfully daunting and deeply intriguing female figures which seem to posses and cryptically convey the enigmatic story of their own creation and existence.  As Amy explains, “In the earliest forms, my female figures came of my personal history.  As the figures evolved over the years, I saw each emerge possessed of its own mysterious history.”  Amy envisions her female figures as vulnerable to all the same elemental forces that human beings are also subjected.  In Amy’s words, “These figures speak to me of struggle and transcendence [they are] visually susceptible to gravity time … all the forces to which humans are susceptible.”
